Darling Point

Darling Point dares to innovate—behind and in front of the camera.

Darling Point is DIY meets New Work.

Darling Point focuses on female perspectives and unconventional (anti-)heroines.

Darling Point is a home for creativity and ideas.

Alice Gruia says

When I think of Darling Point, I’m overcome with a nostalgic feeling of home. Darling Point—which was called Yarranabbee and was home to the Gadigal people of the Eora nation for thousands of years—is now a suburb of Sydney and was my home whenever I stayed with my grandmother. I shot my first film RODICAS about her and her best friend. This is where I began making films. You could say it happened to me. I was in my mid-20s, and actually an actor, but I was convinced the world should meet these two women. So I just did it, without any money, without a production company, without a clue. It was my film school. RODICAS celebrated its premiere at the Berlinale in 2012.

This kind of DIY and learning by doing really shaped me. It is exactly how my recent series LU VON LOSER came about too. The difference is, in the past I have taken on the production side of projects out of necessity, now I do it consciously. Because not only do I wish to shape the creative part, but also the long way that leads there. There is much to shake up in this industry, it is screaming for change and new directions. The four-day-week I established for the last shoot is only the beginning.
